Report for Trial at Coney Burrow 16.11.2024

A calm, crisp, autumn day, with dry crunchy leaves underfoot, lacking only sunshine for our trial. The ground was mainly dry and attracted a good entry of 46 riders. A few ‘newbies’, some visitors, and a blast from the past Simon Levett.

The setting out team of Peter Collins, Roger Strudwick, Derek Strudwick, and new volunteer Ian Rothera, laid out 8 sections with the intention of giving everyone an enjoyable, but occasionally challenging trial, and thus it proved with scores extremely low for the experienced riders and very reasonable for newer ones.

Experts found Section 5 the trickiest, whilst Blues and Reds seemed to lose the most on Section 1. Alan P elected to ride Experts but unfortunately had an altercation with the log on Section 3, hope your shoulder is not too sore.

Charlie S’s score looks atrocious, but he was trying some Expert sections and with Oscar P’s bike blowing out the sight glass, he was riding without a second opinion to hand!  Simon L not having ridden for a couple of years showed a clean sheet on his Beta on the blues, closely followed by Steve B  on 1, Kev Mac having a first lap 5 on Section 7 which spoilt his card. Flo P rode all the blue sections and cleaned all of them at least once, except for Section 1. No scores completed for all her laps so just enjoying the challenge and gaining experience.

Ian M and Frank P tied on 1 with Ian going to lap 4 before he dropped his 1. Ian C and Roger V tied on 4 with Ian best on cleans. Hope that has given Ian a boost, as his riding tailed off recently. Two new members Dom and Elim acquitted themselves with only 3 marks between them, and good to see Glenn moving up to reds.  Oscar K and James H both very keen, had their lowest scores yet, and are improving greatly.  Harry Beaumont on his electric bike, on yellows for only his second trial, looked much  more confident, just need to put your scores down!!

Our oldest campaigners showed the way on the adult yellows, Derek S finishing on 1 despite giving a good impression of a stuntman rolling down the slope on Section 2, and Dave on 3, some of the usual riders reducing their scores month by month.

Our next trial will be after Christmas, as has been our tradition for the last few years. A chance to work off all the food and drink consumed over the festive period. Hopefully we may have a dry day for it, who knows.  Keep an eye out for details in December.
